Homework Policy

Patsy Sommer's Homework Policy

Homework is practice that reflects concepts taught that day or previously.  It serves as a bridge between home and classroom allowing students to share what they are learning at school. Parents can communicate with teachers if a student is struggling with a concept therefore allowing the teacher insight to the student’s mastery of that content.  Students must be able to complete the assignment without instructional assistance from their parents. The following is a set of recommended guidelines when designing homework:

First Grade – no more than 15 minutes daily
Second Grade – no more than 20 minutes daily
Third Grade – no more than 30 minutes daily
Fourth Grade – no more than 40 minutes daily

Fifth Grade – no more than 50 minutes daily
